I felt like being a self-indulged narcissist today. Just kidding. I'm here to jabber about my skin in case you're wondering why the makeup posts suddently halted. For most of my life, I was lucky enough to have decent skin for the lifestyle I lived - waiting tables late night in college, hangin' out til sunrise like most 20-year olds, avoiding spf, sleeping with makeup (on), sippin' cocktails on the regular, and eating junk.
Suddenly, after the babies came and away went the unhealthy life, my skin went on a journey. Mountains & valleys began sprouting haphazardly with the exordium of scars consuming me (my face). The first time around was easily curable with Epiduo, which proved immediate results overnight (I'd recommend anyone see a dermatologist for a sample if you're an acne-newb). But the last six weeks have been agonizing and the once-magical cream is no longer magical. My face has been deluged with unwanted visits albeit being en regle with the whole skincare regimen. Okay, so maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but that's what exactly what it feels like.
Dermatologists these day seem to turn to antibiotics and birth control for immediate relief from hormonal acne (such as mine - from pregnancy), which isn't guaranteed. However, I want to exhaust all topical choices before resorting to oral medication. My skincare routine is pretty simple, consisting of cleansing with the clarisonic (Aria), toning with Thayer's, massaging in Dior serum, and finishing off with Epiduo. In the morning, the clarisonic goes again followed by a salycilic acid lotion, topped with moisturizer (+spf). I've been going two weeks strong...some days, it feels better. Other days, not so much. Makeup is almost unheard of these days for me.
By the way, I'm no expert on acne, not even a neophyte. Probably more like an infant if anything. I don't even know what kind of acne I have - there are no white heads though. The bumps are just hard, kinda small, and never seem to go away. It doesn't really hurt..some times itches. Mostly occurs on my lower right cheek.
I'll give it a few more days, but I'll probably be trying something extreme soon (secret kept til done) and then I'll follow up with you all again. In the meantime, please fill the suggestion box (comment below) with tips and tricks on ridding acne. Thanks.

ReplyDeletei have no secret remedy neither but i'm wondering what kind of extreme thing you're gonna try! you got me hooked! :D
ReplyDeleteHormones make such a big difference on your skin, hair, and just energy levels... After my birth control shot, I was a huge mess... i was losing hair and had really low energy. It's not as significant and amazing as the childbirth process, but you still look beautiful! I think you'll just have to wait it out until the hormones level out... I know my experience isn't the same, but it took a year after my BCshot for my body to normalize...
ReplyDeleteohhh :S I have the same problems :/

To be hones, I haven't even noticed anything. If I haven't read what you wrote, I'd NEVER thought that your skin isn't perfect. So obviously what you're doing is helping.:) I have no tip for you though, I still get zits like I'm a hormonal teenager.:D
ReplyDeletesounds like cystic acne. I am suffering from it as well. I dont want anything oral either, but prescription topicals really seem to help. I just got from my primary care provider.
